On July 25, 2001, Bryce Young was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pasadena, California, was where he spent the most of his adolescent life.
Prior to going to Mater Dei high school, Young attended Cathedral High School in Los Angeles for his first two years of high school football. He was awarded the Los Angeles Times Player of the Year and California’s Gatorade Football Player of the Year after throwing for 4,528 yards and 58 touchdowns as a senior. In addition, USA Today selected him as their High School Offensive Player of the Year. After throwing for 13,520 yards and 152 touchdowns in high school, he was a five-star prospect. Young reneged on his USC football pledge and opted to play for Nick Saban at the University of Alabama instead.

For the entire 2020 season, Young served as the backup quarterback to junior Mac Jones when he was a freshman at Alabama. It was in the latter minutes of the third quarter on September 26, 2020, when Young made his collegiate debut versus Missouri at Faurot Field. On the night in question, Young threw for 54 yards on 5 of 8 completions while adding 2 rushing yards on 4 attempts. During the 2020 season, Young threw for 156 yards and one touchdown in nine appearances. Also in 2021, he took a knee in the CFP National Championship game to seal Alabama’s 52-24 triumph over Ohio State.
