Eddie Redmayne (born January 6, 1982) is an English actor. He is also known as Edward John David Redmayne OBE. His numerous honors include an Academy Award, a Tony Award, a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and a BAFTA Award. He began his career in the West End before making his television debut with a series of guest appearances in 1996. Like Minds and The Good Shepherd, his first two films, were both released in 2006. From 2009 to 2010, Redmayne appeared in the theater productions of Red and Richard II. He earned the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play for the former.

Edward John David Redmayne was born in Westminster, London, on January 6, 1982. Patricia (née Burke) owns a moving company, while his father, Richard Redmayne, works in corporate finance. Sir Richard Redmayne (1865–1955), a civil and mining engineer, was his patrilineal great-grandfather. He has two brothers, one elder and one younger, as well as an older half-brother and half-sister. Redmayne attended Jackie Palmer Stage School alongside James Corden from the age of eleven, where he discovered his love for performing and singing. Redmayne went to Eaton House, Colet Court, and Eton College, where he spent a year studying with Prince William. In the same year, he played Scarlett Johansson’s husband in The Other Boleyn Girl. The actor gave an outstanding performance in Red, alongside Alfred Molina, on the London stage. Molina portrayed artist Mark Rothko, while Redmayne as his helper. Redmayne received an Olivier Award and a Tony Award in 2010 for the play, which was soon moved to Broadway. The next year, he co-starred with Michelle Williams in My Week With Marilyn. The movie is based on the actual tale of a production assistant on the 1957 film The Prince and the Showgirl and his contacts with Marilyn Monroe, the legendary sex symbol.
