Tommy Fury, the half-brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, said on Monday that a serious chest infection and a damaged rib had forced him to withdraw from his impending battle with YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul.
Tommy Fury Will Not Fight Jake Paul Begin Injured
Tommy was scheduled to meet Paul in Tampa, Florida on December 18th. He defeated former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley on the undercard of Paul’s bout in August.
Tommy hails from a long family of boxers, but in 2019 he featured in the British reality program Love Island to expand his popularity outside of the sport.
Tommy, 22, stated in a tweet released by his promoter Frank Warren, “I am incredibly sad that I have been forced to withdraw from my bout with Jake Paul due to a bacterial chest infection and fractured rib.”
“I can’t describe how upset I am, and I really hope we can reschedule this fight in the New Year; this fight is more important to me than anything else.”

As a result of Tommy’s withdrawal, Paul said that he would fight Woodley again. Paul won a split-decision win against Woodley in their cruiserweight bout in August.
“I’m going to give him (Woodley) an additional $500,000 if he can knock me out,” Paul stated in a video posted to Twitter.
